Remote control excavator. Pros and Cons.
First thought: SUCKS! The computer-head-bastards stilling our job
Second: Let's do some thinking! Please consider that i do not know the real deal (never been working with remotely controlled excavator). So just a common sense based on known by me technologies.
Pros:
: Machine still need an operator with excavation experience. Plus, someone will have to do a pre-start check. No job loss there.
: You would be able to scrape asbestos from the distance without any harm to yourself. Safety that is as well as more work can be covered!
: Load/unload the excavator on the truck without jumping in and out. Productivity that is!
: Confined spaces. My personal view is that this technology is a must in this case. Productivity and Safety there!
Cons:
: Operating machine from the distance can be difficult due to limited vision. Productivity loss!
: You will have to rely on the network, which will provide connection between control panel and the machine. P.S. It is year 2010 and so far any wireless network is proved to be slow and unreliable. Live network cable next to an excavator have to be very well secured.

Where to study Excavator in Sydney?
Well, i was looking for excavator training school for about a month and half. Ended up going to Lawrence Davis Training Group.
Keeping in mind that i was having no experience in operating excavator what so ever I was looking for the school which will teach me how to operate the Excavator on basic level and most importantly the school which will provide me with the knowledge to pass the theory and practical assessments .
Things to consider:
1. It is no matter for prospective employer how many days you have been studying. 2,3, or 5 you’ll still be considered as a newbie with no experience.
2. How much you’ve got to pay for the course .
3. Do you best to find out how you will be trained to operate the machine. Ask to have a look the machine and training ground before you sign up. Believe it or not some so call schools having a bin full of sand to dig a trench in ., most of those will stop replying to your emails soon as you ask about this. However, they are extremely cheap, but still not worth the money. And it is a possibility that your licence can be recalled by WorkCover due to insufficient training(dodgy assessors, trainers, etc)
4. Ask about the trainers. If you get replay containing “You know what I mean” – forget about this institution.
